The Third Grade classes will be making Gingerbread Houses that light up! We will need your help in providing the items for the students to decorate their houses. If you are able to help out, sign up here: http://signup.com/go/tvCwAOX or click the link on my website Blog. Please have the items to school by Thursday, December 20th. We will be decorating the houses on Friday, December 21st at 1:15. I would also appreciate volunteers to help in the classroom. You must have the volunteer background check completed with the office and then please sign up online. Thank you for your support! Mrs. Benkley

We will be making Gingerbread Houses that light up on Thursday, December 21st. I will need help with supplies as well as extra hands to complete the houses. We will begin making them right after lunch from 12:00-1:15. The link to sign up is signup.com/go/xUENRZk. Thanks for all your help!!The Student Council is sponsoring a Winter Carnival. The Carnival will be Friday, December 8th starting at 5:00. Each class is donating a basket. Our theme is Winter Survival. Please bring items such as mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, hot chocolate, or anything else that you feel would be appropriate. :)
Our Winter Concert will be on Thursday, December 14th. The 2nd-3rd Grade will be performing at 9:45. Looking ahead, December 21st we will be making light up gingerbread houses. When the link to SignUp.com is activated, I will send home a notice. We will be needing the items for decorating as well as 3 volunteers. I need to give a big shout out to the parents who donated money in order for us to get another computer in our room! We have it up and running and I can't tell you how happy that one little student is to have her own Chromebook now. It also freed up our only iPad which I use during centers to look up interesting things that come up in discussion and also to grade the students. THANK YOU!!
Thank you to the reading volunteers who started this week! We also started an out of the classroom reading intervention, so it took a little to get it all orchestrated. I can't wait to see the growth the students will make! I am still in need of reading and math volunteers. Our reading time is from 9:15-10:15 and then I can use an extra hand at Monday and Thursday from 11:00-11:20. Our math time is from 12:15-1:15. What I need help with is working 1:1 with students on corrections and then working on math fact fluency. Thanks for a great start to the school year! I adore your children and they make every day more meaningful to me. Picture day is Tuesday, October 3. :) We are one computer short of having 1:1 devices in our classroom. So, I wrote a grant through Donars Choose to purchase one more Chromebook. Here's the link to check it out!
www.donorschoose.org/project/chromebooks-in-the-classroom/2702073/ During the first week, when you use the promo code LIFTOFF at the checkout, your donation will be met dollar for dollar. It's very exciting to see it grow! I hope it will be fully funded soon. Thanks for the great turn out on Parent Night Open House. I loved meeting you all again and some for the first time. Please don't hesitate if you have any questions or concerns. This will be the first week of reading centers and homework. The kids and I are ready to get things rolling. I will be contacting people interested in volunteering soon. I like to have some 1:1 time with each child to pin point their specific needs. Thanks for a great start to the year!! Thursday, September 7 is Parent Night from 6:00-7:00. There are three identical information sessions, 6:00, 6:20, and 6:40. Please plan to attend one of them. The purpose of Parent Night is to get to know the routines and expectations of your child in my classroom. I look forward to seeing you! Homework will begin next week. A spelling list, reading log, and short math page will be given on Monday. The reading log and math page need to be completed and returned by Friday. Building reading stamina is very important in 3rd grade. Please support your child in reading 15-20 minutes per week night. Students will take a spelling test on Friday. The math page is a review concept from the current week. I would love to have you volunteer in the classroom. I have a wide variety of tasks depending on the day and your preference. Tasks can be clerical or working with students. Make sure you fill out the volunteer background check. Find the form here or at the office. The class is a very active class! I'm not sure if it is just coming off summer, but there is a lot of noise-making going on, such as humming, singing, tapping, etc. Please talk with your child about containing their noises until recess. Thanks for your support! The Remind App link to my class is: www.remind.com/join/mrsbenkl I will use this for important updates or things I may need. The students have been working hard learning their multiplication facts. It is time to celebrate their hard work. On May 4th, we will have an ice cream sundae celebration. The button below will take you to the link for Signup.com. You will find a list of items to bring to help out our celebration. I will also need two volunteers to help out with scooping ice cream and clean up. Thanks!!
